Jeez, where do I start?
I guess it makes sense to first mention a short story I wrote last year. It's called A Pearl of Hope. The story follows a young girl, Pearl, as she discovers a special ability deep inside herself. Three specific instances within the 5,000-word narrative describe situations where Pearl suddenly experiences her ability. She doesn't truly understand what is happening to her, but she remains hopeful throughout. It's a sort of superpower origin story that I really enjoyed putting together.
I submitted the short story to Clarkesworld science-fiction and fantasy magazine last year with very high hopes. Ultimately, they rejected my submission, providing valuable feedback in the process. Clarkesworld offers a per-word payment for stories they accept, though I was seeking a publisher mostly to get my story out there rather than to make money.
The feedback they provided was a little bit embarrassing. I know, as writers, we are all navigating through the writing process to learn and grow together, but I felt pretty dumb not even knowing the proper format for submission. It was certainly a real "face palm", if eye-opening, moment for me. However, I pushed forward and edited the short story, formatting it in manuscript form as they suggested. I was going to send it to other magazines to seek publishing but decided not to, at least not yet. I might simply post it here and hope a few curious eyes find it somehow. The decision how to proceed hasn't been made at this time. Perhaps I could just sit on it; see if I can turn it into something bigger later on. I'm not sure yet.
Besides the above-mentioned piece, I am currently working on four novels:
1) Destiny Dawn
*A sort of coming-of-age story with a fantasy/sci-fi twist. Planned to be a larger series.
2) Symphony Rock
*Loosely based on a true story about two friends making their way through high school, college, and adulthood. Oh yeah, with another fantasy/sci-fi twist!
3) Lucid Dream Girl
*A story about a man with a seemingly perfect family, sliding into a dream-like reality that slowly begins to take everything away from him.
4) S. Mondari
*More info to come.
I am not quite ready to share many more details at the moment. Though, I am always working hard, hoping to one day share these narratives with the world.
So, this is what in the world I am working on. I am currently meeting other writers on socials, getting involved with the online writing community, and piecing together my stories. Thank you for indulging me so far!
